SEPT 2017 – President and President Elect announce director appointment

President Todd Underwood, Allstate Insurance and President Elect, Scott Welsh, Welsh Insurance Services announce the appointment of John Mills, InterWoven Inc. and The RedlandsMill to the Board of Directors. Mills, along time chamber member and supporter has over 20 years management experience in transition management in small to medium-sized companies. His broad business experiences include cross cultural national and international alliance development and company reorganizations with a focus on “People First”.

Mills can be found at most chamber functions, including Rise ‘n Shine Redlands, Business to Business along with workshops and seminars, networking and sharing with fellow members. He has support not only chamber publications but fundraisers over the years.

“We are delighted to add John to our team.” Noted Underwood, “The brain trust we have developed over the years leading our organization into the future is remarkable and John clearly adds to it.”

Mills will join fellow directors in January of 2018.

“Should old acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind?” – Not in Redlands this New Year’s Eve!

The Redlands Chamber of Commerce and the City of Redlands will present for the first time ever, the Orange Drop in downtown Redlands. Sponsored by Mirau, Edward, Cannon, Lewin and Tooke, and Teamsters 1932, the downtown event will celebrate the arrival of 2018 with great flare.

Just like the world famous party in Time Square, New York, Redlands residents and visitors will countdown the minutes until midnight when a spectacular lighted twelve foot orange will descend announcing the New Year.

Restaurants and bars will swing open their doors offering signature tastes enticing customers to join in the fun in each of their establishments.

Local hotels will offer New Year’s packages that will include transportation to and from downtown Redlands, so guest won’t have to worry about driving or parking.

Downtown streets will be closed to vehicle traffic so pedestrians can travel from restaurant to tavern throughout the downtown area.

DJ and MCs will keep the crowds entertained with interesting Redlands and New Year’s facts, dancing in the street and of course the official count down. The festivities will begin at 6:00 PM and of course the anticipated “DROP” at the stroke of midnight.

For those party goers that prefer a more traditional celebration, Speakeasy on State Street will host a VIP party that will include a Hor’s d’Oeuvres, buffet dinner, dessert bar, no host bar, dancing to the Secret Jazz Band, reserved parking and a private VIP viewing area to witness the Orange Drop. Tickets will be available on line at EventBrite.com starting October.

SEPT 2017 – Calling all dogs

Have you heard? It’s going to happen again!!! The Redlands Chamber is going to host another 5K Dog Jog, On Saturday, November 4th 8:00 AM at Sylvan Park!!!

My friends and I had soooooo much fun last year at the very first Dog Jog….. more than 250 of my new best friends showed up and boy did we have a great time!!! Let me tell you, there were all shapes and sizes, some in costume, some riding in wagons and some in strollers, some even got carried across the finish line but that still counts as a finish…we had such a good time.

This year the Chamber is going to start and finish the race from Sylvan Park…. Perfect!! Think of all the trees and bushes we can sniff before and after the race.

I understand that we actually start in the park then make our way through the University campus heading east then a couple of miles later we circle back to the park where we get our official 2017 Dog Tag, I’m collecting them…. And of course our water and treats.

This year I’m told that Alta Vista Credit Union, Barich & Associates, All Four Paws Pet Care, SCE, Allstate Insurance – Todd Underwood, Storage West, and Office Solutions are sponsoring the race. When you shop there tell them thanks for supporting us.

There is a brand new logo and T-shirt for our two legged friends and I think we get official bandanas this year, and a whole bunch of goodies in our swag bag!

I have a couple of pictures I’m going to post here and on our Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat pages. They are pictures of my pals from last year…. amazing athletes each and every one of them.

SEPT 2017 – Member Profile – Coventry Pet Resort

The Coventry Pet Resort, offers five star accommodations for your furry friends

 The Coventry Pet Resort, located at 412 Tennessee, in Redlands,  opened in 2004 with current owners Kevin and Deborah, who have been active in the showing of AKC purebred dogs since the 1980s. The Coventry Pet Resort is currently the home to Champion Coventry Vanity Fair, the number one Pembroke Welsh corgi in America and winner of the herding group at the AKC National Championship at Long Beach California.

Coventry Pet Resort is a member of the Pet Care Services Association (PCSA).  PCSA members offer a variety of services to pet owners including boarding, dog daycare, grooming, animal training, pet supply sales and shipping.

Dog Accommodations

Coventry Pet Resort does not use cages or crates, instead for your pet’s comfort and health they provide full size indoor-outdoor pet suites and the buildings are climate controlled so they are heated and air-conditioned.

Guests can freely choose to go in or out during the day, but in the case of inclement weather, we bring them into the buildings at night so the temperature can be regulated for their comfort and health

The Resort provides all beds and bedding, using Kuranda beds that are like a doggy “Bark-a-Lounger” hammock that lifts your dog about 2-3 inches off the floor so they will stay warm in winter and cool in the summer. they place a hypoallergenic fleece or blanket on top of each bed and launder them daily.

At mealtimes they feed either house recommended Blue Buffalo premium dog food or, if you prefer, your regular food at no additional cost.

The professionals at the Coventry Pet Resort, recommend that both puppies and senior dogs continue to eat their normal diet to minimize the chance of stomach upset that sometimes accompanies rapid diet changes

Overnight lodging rates are based upon the size of your dog. Current rates:

$15.00 for a small dog (1 to 30 lbs.)

$17.00 for a medium size dog (31 to 50 lbs.)

$19.00 for a large dog (50 lbs. and above)

Coventry Pet Resort offers a separate cattery for feline guests to provide a relaxed and stress-free environment, complete with soothing music, 24 hours a day.

AUG 2017 – President’s article by Todd Underwood

Hope you’re enjoying the dog days of summer. And speaking of dogs….. the Redlands Chamber 2nd Annual Dog Jog is accepting registrations, just log onto www.redlandschamberrun.com for registration and details.

Things are certainly heating up in our city. Lots of progress at the Redlands Packing House District.  What a great gateway to Redlands this will be! We are anticipating store openings in the early Fall, we have our red ribbon and big scissors ready to go to celebrate!

We are really pleased that the city is taking action on improving the parking issues for our downtown businesses. The recent parking analysis has provided a phased in opportunity for additional spaces to be added to downtown Redlands.  Watch for details and announcements when the first phase is begun.  Kudos to the City Council, anytime decisions are made that will benefit Redlands’ businesses, we all win.

Hope you’ve had a chance to enjoy “Tarzan” at the Bowl. So much talent right here in our own backyard…it is truly amazing!

 

AUG 2017 – President Elect Scott Welsh announces slate of Directors

President Elect, Scott Welsh, Welsh Insurance Services, announces slate of Directors for Chamber’s Board terms beginning January 2018.

Mike Hokana, Office Solutions: Mike has served three years on the Chamber’s Board of Directors and has agreed to another three year term. The consummate volunteer, Hokana has served as director, Vice President, Ambassador, The Neon Night Light Run, the Dog Jog Committee and Redlands on Ice event. When there is a call for help Hokana is the first on the job.

Mark Orr, Teamsters 1932 has agreed to serve on the Redlands Board of Directors for a three year term. Mark has arranged for support for the past two State of the Community Luncheons and has been a constant at both Rise ‘n Shine and Business to Business. When asked, Mark steps up to assist in any all activities at the Chamber. His vision and enthusiasm for the Redlands business community and the chamber are evident in his volunteerism.

“We are very pleased to announce the appointment of two Directors for 2018, Mike Hokana and Mark Orr.  Mike Hokana of Office Solutions is an active long time Chamber member and current Director.  Mike leads the Chamber Ambassador program and assists with many Chamber events and activities.  Mark Orr comes to us from Teamsters Local 1932, and is a familiar with Redlands as a former General Manager with Stater Bros markets.  We are thrilled to have the experience and energy that both bring to the Board”.

The organizations’ bylaws provide for additional nominees by petition signed by 20 members in good standing. Petitions must be filed at the Chamber office fifteen days after public notification, a general election will follow.

AUG 2017 – Chamber and City come together

 

The City and Chamber come together to present a spectacular New Year’s Eve Celebration!

The Redlands Chamber, partnering with the City of Redlands, and sponsored by Mirau, Edward, Cannon, Lewin & Tooke, will ring in 2018 in grand fashion in downtown Redlands. For the first time ever, patterned after New York’s Time Square Ball Drop, the Redlands “drop” will reflect our culture using a spectacularly lighted Orange, dropped at the stroke of midnight!

Suspended over the crowds that will gather on Citrus, State and Orange Streets, the Orange Drop count-down with a D J, celebrity MCs, and dance music will showcase our local restaurants, bars, coffee shops and more.

For those that want a more traditional evening, a VIP affair will be hosted at The Speakeasy on State, offering dining, dancing and revelry, preferred parking, and a private “Orange Drop” viewing area. Tickets will be available through Event Brite found on the Speakeasy on State web site www.speakeasyonstate.com, with reservations beginning in October.

Local hotels will be offering special New Year’s Eve packages, including transportation to and from the hotels to downtown Redlands.

Downtown bars and restaurants will serve up their signature specialties, including Orange Drop Martini’s and all things orange.

To help map out the celebration strategy a directory of all participating businesses will be available.

“The Chamber has been toying with the idea of creating this spectacular event for a number of years.” said Tiffany Jiles, Committee Chairperson. “When we learned that the city was creating a focus on the holiday season we thought that, in partnership, this would be the perfect way to see in 2018 and begin a tradition in Redlands.”
