E-mail time savers

Technology is supposed to give us more time to do more important things. But when it comes to e-mail many of us spend more time than needed responding to electronic messages. Here are a few tips for working more efficiently with e-mail.

1.    Check your mail only twice a day. There’s no reason to check you mail several times a day. Set a time in the morning and in the late afternoon when things are quiet.

2.    Separate your personal and business mail accounts. Keep your personal mail out of work and keep your work mail out of your home. Your can use a service like ivillage’s free e-mail or Hotmail to maintain a separate personal account. Avoid the temptation of checking that personal account during the day.

3.    Filter the spam. Spam is unsolicited e-mail advertising. Instead of simply deleting the message there is often an option to request a stop on the e-mail.

4.    Organize your addresses and messages. Don’t waste time retyping e-mail addresses every time you send something. Keep a running address book for all of your e- mail addresses. File your messages into appropriate folders as soon as you read them.

A proper estate plan begins with a consultation with an expert. That’s why at the Albrektson Law Offices every client meets first with one of firm’s attorneys to assess needs on an individual basis. A-Shred America and the Chamber offered free Shredding to members and Community

A-Shred America and the Chamber offered free Shredding to members and Community of hundreds of cities, chambers, redevelopment agencies, development commissions and more opposing the proposed shutting down of local redevelopment agencies in the State. The proposal represents more of the misguided State budget raids of local government funds that voters have repeatedly sought to end, costing thousands of jobs, billions in local economic activity and destroying a key tool to meet the state’s infill land-use objectives.

The State’s own numbers have shown that killing redevelopment will bring very little financial relief for the State. In fact, after this budget year, the State Department of Finance acknowledges zero State savings from shutting down redevelopment. According to the State Controller’s Office, redevelopment agencies have more than $87 billion in bond and other contractual obligations that legally must be repaid before revenues are available to any other purpose.

The chamber urges all members to contact our local state legislators and Governor Jerry Brown and them to reject the proposal and focus on proposals that offer real solutions to California’s budget problems.
