A Home Away From Home an alternative to nursing home placement

Many families would prefer to care for an elderly loved one at home. However, without assistance, the experience of care giving can often be overwhelming. A Home Away From Home is a unique adult day care program that provides care for frail, physically or cognitively impaired seniors, including persons with Alzheimer’s or other types of dementia. Because daycare programs are typically more affordable than “in-home” care, they are helpful for families who look for alternatives to nursing home placement.

Unlike other adult day programs, A Home Away From Home’s program is offered in a quaint south Redlands house and provides participants with all the comforts of home. The home setting and small group size allows A Home Away From Home to minimize the confusion and discomfort that many elderly experience in a typical day care program.

In addition to the cozy home environment, beautiful outdoor areas allow participants to enjoy outdoor activities or to simply rest in peaceful sitting areas. A Home Away From Home’s program enables participants to enjoy social and recreational activities in the companionship of other seniors. It also provides caregivers the benefit of knowing that their loved one is being cared for in a comfortable, safe environment. Weekend and evening care is also available.

The program is administered by Michele Quigley, who decided to enter the field of Alzheimer’s care after her own mother died from the disease. Michele is intimately familiar with both the trials and rewards of care giving. Her hope is to transform the fear of dementia and its associated behaviors into a care program that embraces her participants both for whom they are and who they once were. For information about A Home Away From Home, you may contact Michele Quigley at 909-748-7920 or visit her website at ahomeawayfromhome.info.
