OCT 2015 – President’s Article by Jill Riley

Jill Riley

The board of directors held its annual strategic planning to develop a course of action for upcoming year. Collectively we looked at the programs and services offered at the chamber and how they can benefit our members. Ongoing programs that keep members informed, and will continue as will networking opportunities. New programs and tasks have been established to further benefit the membership and business base in Redlands. The newly formed Hotel Industry Council will focus on tourism increasing overnight stays. Retail and hospitality industries directly benefit to increased hotel stays, making it worthwhile for all.

One of the goals the board has established is to spend time visiting and calling Redlands Chamber members and letting them know about all the programs and services available.

The chamber had its annual Cruisin’ Cuisine on September 19th and it was a great evening for my family and I. As we wandered the streets of downtown stopping at the ten restaurants that participated, we all decided we would look forward to revisiting these restaurants again in the future. You don’t need to leave Redlands when it’s time to dine there are so many great restaurants in town. I would like to thank all the restaurants who participated including Alfaro Catering, Benjarong Thai Cuisine, Dhat Island Caribbean Cuisine, Muffin Top Bakery, Oscars Mexican Restaurant, Royal Falconer Pub, Sizzler Restaurant, The Old Spaghetti Factory, The State, and Wok In Café. I would also like to thank Paul and Joann Barich, of Barich and Associates, for sponsoring the grand prize drawing of an iPad Air. A first time guest Wanda Anderson visiting from Moreno Valley was the grand prize winner. I hope to see you all again next year.

SEPT 2015 – Riley Steps Into President’s Roll Early

Jill RileyChamber President Elect, Jill Riley, co-owner of Citrus Valley Plumbing has moved up the ranks in the Chamber Leadership earlier than expected. While slated to be the president of the Chamber during the 2016 calendar year, Geoff Bonney found it necessary to step down early and hand over the reins.

Bonney, owner of Bonney Architecture, has expanded his business and finds himself in Newport Beach more than Redlands these days. In tendering his resignation from the Board Bonney indicated that the decision was difficult as he has enjoyed his role as president and Board member but finds the demands of drive time and work have left him little time to do the job effectively.

While Riley was planning on taking on the office of President in January of 2016 she has been acting as Bonney’s stand-in for the past several months, overseeing Board Meetings, representing the Chamber at Council Meetings and making her presence known at various Chamber and Community events.

“I’m sorry to see Geoff Bonney go.” Said Riley, “He stepped up early to serve two consecutive terms and did a terrific job. He represented the Chamber with grace and dignity at all times. While his term was not without controversial issues he helped steer the organization to accomplish an extraordinary number of successes throughout his term. He will be missed by all of us especially me.”

Her first official order of duty as the President of the Chamber is to call for a Strategic Planning Meeting of the Board of Directors, to set the course for the upcoming year and those to follow.

SEPT 2015 – Zombies Target Redlands in Summer 2016

#3 Zombie ArticleThe Chamber’s Zombie Fighters… aka… Redlands Fright Night Committee have postponed the apocalypse and have declared the summer of 2016 a “Zombie Pandemic”.

The chamber was planning to host a zombie tour or run if you’re afraid of them, in October of this year but ran into scheduling conflicts with community events so the undead committee called for a “stand down”, regroup and reschedule.

You can now plan your summer get-a-way, or get-out, around the arrival a hundreds of Zombies making their way through the streets of Redlands.

The Chamber will not only monitor but alert the public about the sightings and inevitable arrival of the living dead.

Not unlike the prediction of a severe El Nino~ the apocalypse will redefine Redlands sleepy summer of 16.

SEPT 2015 – President’s Article by Jill Riley, Citrus Valley Plumbing

Jill Riley

I had no idea five years ago when we started our business and partnership with Redlands Chamber of Commerce that I would be writing a newsletter as president of the board. It is such an honor to be part of such a great organization. As most of you know Geoff Bonny has resigned due to his exceptionally busy work schedule. Over the last year and a half as president, Geoff has put fourth so much time, effort, and dedication to the Redlands Chamber of Commerce. We are truly going to miss him. I am hoping that I can continue the success that Geoff and the past presidents have experienced.

The Board will take part in the annual Strategic Planning meeting next month where we establish out our goals and direction for next year and set the tone for years to come. Please feel free to share with any of the directors or myself, ideas or suggestions that you may have to better serve the membership.

I look forward to representing the chamber and all of the businesses it supports.
