DEC 2018 – Drops and Drones will ring in the New Year in Redlands

Witness the first ever lighted drone show welcoming in 2019 in downtown Redlands. Following the second annual Orange Drop celebrating the end of one year and the beginning of the next the Redlands of Commerce and the City of Redlands will host the free extravaganza on the corner of State and Orange Streets. Immediately following the Orange Drop the sky will be ablaze with dancing drones, sponsored by Circa 2020, The Crossings and Teamsters 1932.

A light drone show is an ability to experience the night sky in a way we never could before by creating a drone light show.

Rather than the usual gunpowder-powered fireworks show, many events and cities in California celebrate Independence Day with a sky full of drones.

An animated sequence of multicolored lights suspended from drones transforms spectacular shapes all choreographed to music.  The show is a three-dimensional dance for all the audience with more than a billion light combinations in real time.

The images the drones reproduce on the midnight canvas are created using regular 3D modeling applications with specially developed plugins that let the designers see the animations exactly as they’ll appear in the sky. The software also has a built-in safety feature that prevents drones colliding; if two drones occupy the same space at once, the designer is alerted so they can fix the problem.

The drones look amazing in motion, but that’s not the only thing. Drone Light shows are safer than fireworks in a million ways, they cause less pollution and they are re-usable meaning less waste. Drones are not limited to a single flight like a firework rocket.

It also means displays are more flexible, because of the

programmable nature of the drone show, it’s not a one-time show – it can be used over and over again. It doesn’t have to be tied to one single annual event. The more you re-use them, the better the economics, and the environment.

Celebrate the New Year in downtown Redlands make your reservations now at one of the many restaurants and bars in Redlands, reserve a ticket at one of the two private parties at the Speakeasy, complete with private parking and a private viewing areas visit the food court at Ed Hales Park and be a witness to the very first Redlands Drone show.

NOV 2018 – It’s time to party in downtown Redlands

It’s time to party in downtown Redlands

With New Year’s Eve fast approaching, the City of Redlands is ringing in it in with a sensational new holiday tradition. This year, residents and visitors alike will gather in downtown Redlands in anticipation of the Orange Drop.

The second annual event is sponsored by, Paul and Joann Barich, Mirau, Edwards, Cannon, Lewin and Tooke, Ayres Hotel, Welsh Insurance Services and Harbour Suds Brothers.

Restaurants, coffee shops, bars and food services will be feeding the thirsty and hungry while everyone readies for the countdown. There’s no better place to look for fun on New Year’s Eve than downtown Redlands.

After thousands of party goers gathered last year, the committee is preparing for an even bigger crowd this year. The Orange will be located on the corner of State and Orange Streets and a food court has been added at Ed Hales Park… local non-profit organizations and businesses have been invited to offer “family friendly” food for those that don’t make reservations at the bars and restaurants.

For traditional party goers and New Year’s Eve at Speakeasy on State Street will be the place to be. This year The Speakeasy is offering TWO different themed parties, for two different prices, Black time for the traditionalist, and a “far out” Disco party for the “clubbers”.  Tickets have already gone on sale and include preferred parking (priceless) , and a private viewing area for the amazing Orange Drop.

To buy your tickets to New Year’s Eve at the Speakeasy on State, you can log into Eventbrite.com or go to SpeakEasyOnState.com.

If that weren’t enough……. Immediately following the Orange Drop announcing the beginning of 2019, there will be a LIGHTED DRONE SHOW … a hundred dancing drones will light up the midnight sky. This one of a kind event is not to be missed! Nowhere in the east valley will drones dazzle the revelers ushering the New Year! Presented by Circa 2020, The Crossings and Teamsters 1932.

Make your reservations early at one of the many downtown restaurants or bars!

NOV 2018 – How important is one vote

How important is one vote

In 1645, one vote gave Oliver Cromwell control of England

In 1649, one vote caused Charles I of England to be executed

In 1776, one vote gave America the English language instead of German

In 1845, one vote brought Texas into the Union

In 1868, one vote saved President Andrew Johnson from impeachment

In 1876, one vote gave Rutherford B. Hayes the presidency of the United States

In 1923, one vote gave Adolf Hitler leadership of the Nazi Party

In 1941, one vote saved Selective Service – just one week before Pearl Harbor was attacked.

In 1960, just one vote per precinct elected John F. Kennedy to president

In 2000, the difference in the total vote in the state of Florida in the Presidential race between George W. Bush and Al Gore was less than on-half of one percent. A recount was mandated by the Secretary of State. George W. Bush received the electoral votes from Florida. He won the election by 1 electoral vote, 270 were needed he received 271.

Voting propels our nation forward by keeping democracy a priority. Be a part of the movement and exercise your right to vote on Tuesday, November 6th, remember one vote makes a difference.

NOV 2018 – Here’s what the City does for small business

Months ago the chamber was approached by a small business that needed help with an issue of critical importance. After inspection, occupancy was cut in half and the business manager was notified that a major construction project would have to be undertaken to comply with fire exits.

Reducing the occupancy was bad enough as the business was a favorite haunt of many who were disappointed when denied entry based on occupancy. The reconstruction of back door exit was going to run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars, staggering news to a small business owner. With the looming loss of revenue and extraordinary investment for construction there was discussion about closing the business.

The chamber arranged for a meeting with city officials with the ultimate goal of finding a reasonable solution. From Development Department, Economic Development, Building and Safety, Fire Department and Quality of Life no stone was left unturned until there was some kind of resolution.

The Herculean effort of city staff to address the problem was remarkable. From inspections to visits to round table discussions of ways in out and around there was always and end goal; to insure the downtown business stayed open and thrived.

Just this week Quality of Life Director Chris Boatman shared the good news….. the occupancy issue was addressed bringing the number back to its original total, and the required fire exit was dealt with, without investing multi thousands of dollars.

Hats off to the staff and leadership of the City of Redlands for not only identifying the value of our local small businesses but demonstrating creative, imaginative and effective solutions for issues that could have severe impact on keeping doors open in a long standing local business.

So when you hear, especially during this election campaign season, that the city does not support small businesses, is business unfriendly and is inequitable in the treatment of business owners, reflect back on this victory and remember we are all invested in the success of our local businesses big and small and stand in concert for prosperity and success for all.
