FEB 2013 – UNIVERSITY IS THE SECOND OLDEST CHAMBER MEMBER
The University of Redlands is the second-oldest member of the Chamber, a partner for 88 years. It is the location for the Chamber’s monthly Rise N Shine, held there for 20 years, and other Chamber events.
The independent, nonprofit, liberal arts and sciences University was founded in 1907, and since then has emphasized academic rigor, personal development and interdisciplinary studies. In addition to the College of Arts & Sciences, it is also home to the School of Music, School of Business and School of Education and the Johnston Center for Integrative Studies. The University’s Center for the Arts is the city’s first Gold LEED building, part of the University’s overall commitment to sustainability. It also boasts a robust student life and successful athletic program.
The University is an institution proud of its traditions, which include live bulldog mascot Thurber, the Och Tamale Chant and the large R that marks one of the foothills facing the University.
In August 2012, the University welcomed its 11th president, Dr. Ralph Kuncl. On Feb. 20, the University will hold his official inauguration, to which the public is invited. The University believes in the Town & Gown relationship and often welcomes the community to campus for public events, including the School of Music’s annual Feast of Lights in December.
